Breast augmentation also known as breast enlargement is a procedure where we increase the size of the breast. It can be done in two ways. Either by fat transfer or by artificial implant which is usually silicon. If we use fat transfer, the results will be long lasting like 1.5- 2 years. In fat transfer we take fat from areas like stubborn fat from tummy and we make it as a refined fat, nano fat then we inject it in the breast to give the enhancement. But the survival of fat according to the literature is only 40-70%, the patient may not get the expected result in first go. So she may come back again after 6-8 weeks. As per results, we may repeat the procedure. Whatsoever, the results may not be same as breast implants. So we ask most of the patients to go for breast augmentation with silicone implants. In Breast augmentation, we are placing silicone implants underneath the breasts. It may be underneath the gland, underneath the muscle or between the both. So as per the literature durability of breast implant is around 10 years and may extend up to 20 years. It may last for life also. But only thing we have to keep in mind as we wait for longer time is implant may become weaker and chances of fracture is more. Apart from that there is no other risk.
