Dealing With Irregular Periods? Ask Yourself These 5 Questions?
Ques 1: Am I stressed or under a lot of pressure?
Stress can potentially contribute to irregular periods. When you are stressed or overwhelmed your body releases cortisol, a type of stress hormone. Cortisol can negatively disrupt the hormonal balances that are vital to regulating your periods on time. So next time your periods are late then stress could be the culprit.
Ques 2: Have I Changed my diet or exercise routine recently?
Drastic changes in your eating habits or exercise routine can have a significant impact on your menstrual cycles. Suddenly starting with an intensive workout routine or low-calorie diet can drain your energy levels. Due to this, your body may not have enough energy to support your menstrual cycles, leading to irregular periods or decreased flow.
Ques 3: Have I recently gained or lost weight?
Excessive weight gain not only leads to hormonal imbalance but also alleviates your risk of developing several health complications. Rapidly gaining or losing weight can negatively affect the production of hormones that are responsible for regulating your periods. Ensure that you are taking proactive measures to maintain a healthy weight.
Ques 4: Am I taking any new medications or supplements?
If you are starting with new medications or supplements then you may be cautious as they can delay your periods. Some medications like antidepressants, birth control pills, or thyroid medications can mess up your periods and blood flow.
Ques 5: Am I taking enough sleep?
Not sleeping enough can take a heavy toll on your menstrual cycles and blood flow. Poor sleep quality can increase your stress levels while creating hormonal imbalance leading to delayed or missed periods too often. This is why make sure that you get more than 7 to 8 hours of sound sleep to improve your menstrual health.
